Winter Newsletter 2005

Dear Friends,

The picture of the little owl in our Christmas card is larger than life. This precious Flammulated Owlet would fit perfectly into the palm of your hand. It is the third smallest owl in North America. He, and another baby Flammulated owl are spending the winter with us, under the good care and guidance of “Figment,” our 18-year-old Flammulated Owl Foster Parent.
On the other end of the scale is the largest owl in North America, the Snowy Owl. It was an exiting day when Tundra arrived at the Foundation. She was found a few years ago near Telluride under questionable circumstances. It is suspected that she was smuggled into Colorado from the North as a pet Harry Potter Owl.

Tundra arrived here as an un-releasable Owl. It was planned to take her to programs and help us educate the public. However, it soon became obvious that Tundra did not enjoy the company of humans, or being handled. When we took her to her new cage outdoors, she quickly outgrew its size and was moved into a much larger cage. There is no doubt in our minds now that this bird can be returned to the wild to live her life in freedom. Her unconventional arrival, progress, happy departure and eventual release next spring will be documented on this Web Site.

This is the season to be thankful to all of you who contributed to our cause. Your donations mean more than ever because, like all non profit organizations, we have experienced a reduction in donations due to the needs of the many disaster victims this year. Please remember us in your giving plans in the future.

May the spirit of Christmas be with you.
May the New Year be a good and healthy one for you!
Best wishes from the BOP staff and volunteers!
