UPDATE: Workshop Registration is closed. The workshops and classes for March 1st and 2nd 2008 are full. Due to space restrictions no other registrations can be accepted. Stay tuned to more workshops in the future!

The Foundation’s director, Sigrid Noll-Ueblacker, is planning to offer a 2 day seminar on March 1st and 2nd 2008, at the Birds of Prey Foundation Facility in Boulder County. “Bird Classes and Workshops” are for volunteers, beginners, provisional rehabilitators, home-based and experienced rehabilitators, and for any person who might be interested in exploring opportunities for the future. Attendance will be limited to 60 persons.

It is our pleasure to announce the participation of Marge Gibson, of the Raptor Education Group, an expert Wisconsin rehabilitator who has decades of experience in caring for water- and shore birds, (such as ducks, geese, grebes, loons, swans, and more), as well as many songbirds and raptors.

The seminar will include one day of classroom-style lectures on raising and rehabilitating water birds, (including ducks, geese, loons, grebes, cranes, swans, etc), song birds and night jars, and even raptors. Additional lecture topics include:

  • The body language of birds;
  • Hands-off, gentle rehabilitation;
  • Release criteria;
  • Records of West Nile Virus and other diseases encountered in 2007,

Further topics are being explored.

The second day will consist of hands-on workshops, including avian anatomy, necropsies, initial examination and triage. Lectures will be presented by experienced rehabilitators and veterinarians. Cage designs and interior accommodations will be demonstrated at the BOP flight cage facility. The needs for incoming wounded and orphaned birds will be explained at the BOP Intensive Care Unit.

Like many of you, Sigrid started rehabilitating birds of all species in her backyard, covering all out-of pocket expenses herself. In 1985, by invitation of Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department and with the help of many friends and supporters, she was able to create the Birds of Prey Foundation facility. Sigrid specializes in raptors, however, her love and admiration goes out to all migratory birds. She has rehabilitated many species of birds in the past 28 years. In 2008 BOP anticipates the admission of the 10,000th bird since 1980.

Due to strict space restrictions please keep in mind that only the first 60 persons registered will be accepted. If you wish, we can reserve you a space as an “Early Bird Registrant.” Just drop Sigrid a note at: sigridnoll@gmail.com
